Welcome to the RNSC95 Home Page Home Contents     HomeNewsEvents<b>Course</b> Members   This site has been created as a focal point for the 1995 Royal Navy Staff Course - RNSC95.  It is a means of recording the events that occurred between Monday 13 March and Thursday 7 December 1995, involving the Directing Staff and Students, which will have an enduring influence on the careers and lives of each individual.  It is a home, in which the participants can establish and maintain contact, as well as share their more recent experiences with each other and the casual browser. This site is not sponsored by the UK MOD.  Where opinion may be expressed, it should not be assumed to represent official policy in any way.

Course Profile

At the start of course on 13 March 1995, there were 72 students and some 15 directing and support staff.   In addition to officers of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, 18 of the 72 students were representatives of allied, or partner, Navies from around the world.  The British Army and Royal Air Force each had 3 representatives and there were 2 Ministry of Defence Civil Servants. As well as RN and RM officers, the Directing Staff included Army (Royal Green Jacket), RAF and US Navy officers.   The student number was reduced to 71 very early on when Commander Bob Brown managed to wangle a higher priority appointment to a cushy NATO job.  The band only just managed to survive without him!  Course direction was supplemented by the academic injections of the Department of History and International Affairs under the stewardship of Professor Geoffrey Till. The RN course ran in parallel with the Army and RAF sister courses at Camberley and Bracknell respectively.  At various points during the year, the three courses combined to undertake joint training exercises at Camberley and Bracknell.  The only joint exercise at Greenwich was the Staff Course dinner in July, which was held in the grandeur of the Painted Hall.
